Mid-1970s, White Horse Distillers Ltd. Glen Elgin 12 Year Old, 750ml, 43% #69
Mid-1970s, White Horse Distillers Ltd. Glen Elgin 12 Year Old, 750ml, 43% #69
This bottle is a 12-year-old single malt from the Glen Elgin distillery, distributed in the mid-1970s, the golden age of Scotch whisky. Nowadays, single malts from this period play a key role in blended whisky, making them a particularly valuable heritage.
This bottle was released by White Horse Distillers Ltd., the original supplier of the blended whisky "White Horse." As if to show their pride, the label prominently features the Queen's Coat of Arms and the symbol of their parent company, White Horse, at the top center.
The "Special Grade Whisky" and "Adjusted Value" markings on the top right of the label, along with the Japanese label on the back (importer: Kokusai Bussan Co., Ltd.), prove that this is an official import from Japan at the time. The volume is 760ml, with an alcohol content of 43%, faithfully adhering to the standards set by Japan's old liquor tax law. The bottom of the bottle is embossed with a code indicating the glass manufacturer and bottling date, giving it a unique aesthetic that evokes the era.
Located in the heart of Speyside, Glen Elgin Distillery continues to uphold traditional methods. This vintage bottle from the 1970s offers a more classic, full-bodied flavor than current products. The aroma is a perfect balance of Speyside's typical fruitiness of pear and apple, with the gentle vanilla sweetness of the aging casks. The palate is extremely mellow, with a concentrated malt flavor and subtle hints of sherry casks. The finish is long, pleasantly lingering with the delicate malt aroma and soft smoke of Speyside malt.
This is a superb bottle that allows you to experience the high-quality single malt of Glen Elgin from an era when it was overshadowed by blended whiskies. As this is an old bottle, there may be sediment (a deposit of whiskey components) and changes in the liquid level and label over time. Please check the condition before purchasing.
