This hand-blown glass by Sakata Jinnai features a deep pattern and platinum accents. This piece embodies the artist's unique worldview, transcending the boundaries between glass craft and ceramics. The glass itself is crafted using the "crackle technique," which creates intricate cracks on the surface of the glass, causing the light to reflect irregularly, giving the entire piece a dreamlike texture.

The glass's design is characterized by a unique shape called "Fukajinmon," which has a curved center. The most eye-catching feature is the gold decorative band that wraps around the narrow part of the glass. Gold leaf is lavishly scattered within the clear glass, giving off a dynamic and gorgeous glow that is almost as if a flame is entangled. This spiraling gold decoration elevates the glass beyond a simple sake cup, giving it a high value as a work of art.

Sakata Jinnai was born in Tokyo in 1943, studied under Kamoda Shoji in 1964, and built his kiln in Mashiko Town in 1966. He is known as an artist who pursues the fusion of ceramics and glass. The gold leaf and decorative experiments seen in this piece are thought to date from the 1980s and 1990s, when the artist was actively developing his techniques. This exquisite piece will add a touch of elegance to your evening drinks and dinner table, and is also ideal for collections and as a gift.
