Iwata Hisatoshi Hand-blown Glass Rock Glass #17
Iwata Hisatoshi Hand-blown Glass Rock Glass #17
This is a rare hand-blown glass sake cup by Iwata Hisatoshi (1925–1994), a master who elevated Japanese contemporary glass art to a global standard. The bold combination of red and gold and the soft, shimmering hand-blown form are particularly expressive among Iwata's works, and convey an outstanding sense of color and beautiful form.
This piece is decorated with fine gold particles and diagonally running red streamlines, giving it a powerful and beautiful appearance, as if it were encapsulating flames and passion. The shape tapers towards the bottom, making it comfortable to hold, and it exudes a presence that makes it not only suitable for display, but also as a sake cup for special occasions.
