Ryuichi Kumakura is the second generation owner of Kumakura Glass Crafts, a long-established glass workshop in Kameido, Tokyo, and is highly regarded as an artist who combines the tradition and innovation of Edo Kiriko. In 1990, he founded Edo Kiriko Shop Hanashyo, attracting attention for his self-developed "Hanashyo-ryu" designs. His works are characterized by delicate cuts, unique patterns, and a "hand-polished" finish without acid polishing, and his works were selected as gifts for the leaders of the 2008 Toyako Summit.
Their representative series , "Hanashoryu Sake Ware," is based on traditional patterns but is designed to fit in with modern aesthetics, and includes wine glasses and sake cups. In particular, wine glasses made with purple or lapis lazuli "overlay glass" stand out beautifully as the patterns emerge in the reflection of light, making them extremely popular with collectors both in Japan and abroad.
The glass introduced this time is a masterpiece with intricate patterns unique to the Hanashyo style carved into purple-covered glass, and comes with a special paulownia wood box. It is a work that combines high artistic quality with the formality of a gift. It can be said to be a piece that embodies Kumakura's skilled techniques and aesthetic sense.
