Kumakura Ryuichi is the second generation owner of Kumakura Glass Crafts, a long-established glass workshop in Kameido, Tokyo, and is highly regarded as an artist who combines the tradition and innovation of Edo Kiriko. In 1990, he established Edo Kiriko Shop Hanashyo, and attracted attention for his Hanashyo-ryu designs that he developed himself. His works are characterized by their delicate cuts, unique patterns, and hand-polished finishes that do not use acid polishing, and his works were selected as gifts for the leaders of the Toyako Summit in 2008.
Their representative series , "Hanashoryu Sake Ware," is based on traditional patterns but is designed to fit in with modern aesthetics, and includes wine glasses and sake cups. In particular, wine glasses made with purple or lapis lazuli "overlay glass" stand out beautifully as the patterns emerge from the reflection of light, and are extremely popular with collectors both in Japan and overseas.
The glass introduced this time is a masterpiece with an intricate pattern unique to the Hanashyo style carved into purple-covered glass, and comes with a special paulownia box. The list price is around 130,000 yen, and it is a work that combines high artistic quality and formality as a gift. It can be said to be a piece that embodies Mr. Kumakura's skilled technique and aesthetic sense.
