Glen Slainte 8 Years Old Pure Malt Scotch Whisky, 750ml, 43% ABV, circulated in the early 1980s. #110
Bottled by Lambert Brothers, a prestigious Edinburgh bottler founded in 1849, Glen Slainte 8 Year Old is a legendary pure malt whisky that was offered to members of the Japan Consumers' Co-op in the 1980s in pursuit of "authentic Scotch." As the "Special Grade Whisky" certificate remaining on the neck attests, this bottle, which was in circulation before the revision of the Liquor Tax Law in 1989, boasts a luxurious composition of 100% malt, with no grain whisky mixed in at all.
Unusually for the industry at the time, this whisky was so confident in its quality that it fully disclosed the five main malts that made up the blend. Its composition includes the gently peaty Bruichladdich 8 Year Old from Islay, the Glenlivet 10 Year Old from the Highlands, known as the "Queen of Whiskies," the powerful Glen Grant 8 Year Old, the rich Tomatin 8 Year Old, and the now-defunct Rosebank 10 Year Old from the Lowlands—a luxurious blend that would be impossible to replicate in modern times.
Based on the concept of achieving a "harmonious, rich flavor" that cannot be achieved with a single malt, these high-quality malts with different characteristics are meticulously blended to create a mellow, full-bodied flavor, a smoky finish, and the gentle, mild mouthfeel of Rosebank. Bottled at 43% ABV, this whisky has transcended time and retains the brilliance of "the original Scotch" that the original blenders poured their passion into for their members. This is a supreme old bottle of extremely high historical value, allowing you to savor the rich malt flavor unique to the Grand Cru era and the breath of rare, closed distillery whisky.
