Founded in Speyside in 1966, Tamnavulin Distillery primarily supplied raw spirits for blended whiskies. This exceptionally rare Tamnavulin Glenlivet 15 Year Old was specially selected by the prestigious Italian company Moon Import during the golden age of independent bottling. Based on the detailed specifications on the bottle, this bottle is estimated to have been produced in the late 1980s or early 1990s . The bottom of the label displays the name of Moon Import sas, the company with exclusive import and sales rights in Italy, along with the European market standard of 750ml capacity and 46% alcohol by volume at the time. The signature of R.H. MacMillan, blender for Invergordon, the distillery's owner at the time, is engraved as a mark of quality.
The greatest feature of this bottle is the aging environment, which is proudly stated on the label: "Aged in Sherry Wood." In contrast to the clean and light style of modern Tamnavulin, the raw spirit carefully selected by Moon Imports during this period spent 15 years aging exclusively in luxurious sherry casks. The deep, rich mahogany color, as can be seen in the image, indicates the extremely rich components extracted from the casks, truly embodying the essence of "good old Speyside sherry."
Its rich, multi-layered flavor is difficult to replicate in today's official bottles. Poured into the glass, the rich sweetness of sherry casks, such as ripe raisins and bitter chocolate, emerges, while the high 46% alcohol content maximizes the whiskey's potential. On the palate, the velvety texture blends antique woodiness with Tamnavulin's signature delicate malt flavor, culminating in a long, sensual finish with hints of spice. Moon Imports' early bottlings, renowned for their exceptional selection, are revered by collectors worldwide.
