Distributed in the early 1980s, QE2 (QUEEN ELIZABETH 2) 12 years, 760ml, 49% #70
This bottle is an extremely valuable old bottle that is said to have been served on board the British luxury liner Queen Elizabeth 2 (QE2), which launched in 1976. It is said to contain single malt from Springbank Distillery in Campbeltown, the holy land of malt whisky, and is highly regarded for its provenance and quality. Single malt whisky with the word ARGYLL printed on the front of the bottle is also said to use single malt whisky from Springbank Distillery.
The bottle itself is a sleek black ceramic jug with the QE2 logo embossed in gold in the center. This substantial design symbolizes the elegant and prestigious atmosphere of a luxury cruise ship. Bottled at an unusually high alcohol content of 49% for Scotch whisky at the time, it retains its flavor and components even after long storage. In particular, this bottle weighs 1,572g , which is less than 50g (approximately 50ml) of evaporation compared to the original weight. This is proof that the cap remained tightly sealed and indicates that the whisky inside is likely to retain its peak flavor.
This whisky offers the complex flavors unique to Old Springbank. While the similarities may be difficult to discern when compared to current Springbanks, the similarities are clear when compared to old bottles of Springbank. The salty aroma and subtle earthy smoke characteristic of Campbeltown malt are combined with the fruity, rich malt sweetness and the richness of aged vanilla and honey typical of old bottles, resulting in a very rich flavor. This QE2 bottle is not just an old whisky, but a historic collection coveted by enthusiasts, representing the intersection of the history of global sea voyage and the golden age of Springbank.
As this is an old bottle, the liquid level and label may have changed over time. Please check the condition before purchasing.
