Set of 2 hand-blown glass cups with a deep jinmon pattern, featuring platinum and gold leaf accents, by Jinnai Sakata (Jin). #81
This is a set of two hand-blown glass pieces by Jinnai Sakata, featuring a deep-patterned design and platinum-lacquered design. These pieces embody the artist's unique worldview and exceptional skill, transcending the boundaries between glass and ceramic art.
The glass itself is crafted using a crackle technique, which creates minute cracks on the surface of the glass. When light hits the glass, the finely broken surface, like ice, reflects irregularly, giving the entire piece a fantastical glow and a cool texture.
The glass's unique design is reminiscent of the Fukajin crest, with the body consisting of two rounded bulges, one above the other, and a single curve in the middle. The inside of the glass's base is decorated with a delicate arabesque pattern in gold, along with the artist's signature, the character "Jin." Gold accents can also be seen on the inside of the glass. This gold decoration elevates the glass beyond a simple sake cup, giving it a high level of value as a work of art.
Sakata Jinnai was born in Tokyo in 1943, studied under Kamoda Shoji in 1964, and built his kiln in Mashiko Town in 1966. He is known as an artist who pursues the fusion of ceramics and glass. The decorative experiments in crackle and gold leaf seen in this piece are thought to date from the 1980s to 1990s, when the artist was actively developing his techniques. This exquisite piece will add a touch of elegance to your evening drinks or dinner table, and is also ideal for collections or as a gift.
